BIOS
Dr. Ronald G. Sherwin is Director of Chorale Activities and Chair of Music, Theater, &
Dance at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
He
previously served as Director of the School of Visual & Performing Arts at
Anna Maria College, and prior to that Director of Choral Activities at
Castleton State University. He holds the Ph.D. and M.M. from The University of
Maine where he studied choral conducting with Dr. Dennis Cox.
His choirs
have performed around the United States and Europe including performances at
Carnegie Hall, the Nymburk International Music
Festival in the Czech Republic, and his choir received national attention for
their performance at the harvesting of the Christmas tree for the Capitol in
Washington, DC.
He is a frequent guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator and has served as
a College and University State Chair for both the American Choral Directors
Association (ACDA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
When off
the podium Dr. Sherwin is an internationally recognized and highly
published researcher in arts assessment and has served as Academic Dean of the
Arts Assessment Institute.
In addition to his collegiate duties, Dr. Sherwin remains current in
public school choral music education, most recently serving for several as
years as the middle and high school choir director at Rising Tide Public
Charter School in Plymouth, MA.
He is also co-founder and director of the Social Justice Choir of Southeastern
Massachusetts.
Dr. Sarah H. McQuarrie is Chair of Music and Graduate Coordinator at Bridgewater State University
in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Dr. McQuarrie earned the BA in Music
Education with a concentration in piano from Castleton State University, the MM
in Music Education from The University of Maine, and the DMA in Music Education
from Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.
Before
transitioning to higher education full-time she taught for ten years in both
urban and rural school systems.
As a performer she is co-founder and collaborative pianist of the Social
Justice Choir of Southeastern Massachusetts and has served as accompanist for
several university touring choirs as well as state, regional, and international
music festivals.
Outside of
the performance hall and classroom Dr. McQuarrie is a highly respected
speaker and published researcher in the areas of arts assessment and elementary
methods.In addition to her
collegiate duties Dr. McQuarrie remains current in her field, recently
completing several years as elementary choir director and high school
accompanist at Rising Tide Public Charter School in Plymouth, MA.
